Vaccines and doses

Respiratory syncytial virus monoclonal antibody (nirsevimab) (RSV-mAb)

At birth

A monoclonal antibody, listed in the schedule among "other immunizing agents". One dose in the first RSV season: within 1 week of birth if born October–March, shortly before the season if born April–September. Usually not needed if the mother received RSV vaccine at least 14 days before delivery.

Hepatitis B vaccine (HepB)

Dose 1 At birth · Dose 2 1 month · Dose 3 6 months

Schedule shown is for infants of HBsAg-negative mothers (birth dose within 24 hours if medically stable and ≥2,000 g). Infants of HBsAg-positive or status-unknown mothers get vaccine within 12 hours of birth, plus HBIG when indicated.

Rotavirus vaccine (RV)

Dose 1 2 months · Dose 2 4 months · Dose 3 6 months

Rotarix (RV1): 2 doses at 2 and 4 months. RotaTeq (RV5): 3 doses at 2, 4 and 6 months. Do not start at 15 weeks or older; the last dose must be given before 8 months.

Diphtheria, tetanus, and acellular pertussis vaccine (DTaP)

Dose 1 2 months · Dose 2 4 months · Dose 3 6 months · Dose 4 15 months · Dose 5 4 years

Dose 5 is not needed if dose 4 was given at age 4 years or older and at least 6 months after dose 3.

Haemophilus influenzae type b vaccine (Hib)

Dose 1 2 months · Dose 2 4 months · Dose 3 6 months · Dose 4 12 months

The 6-month dose applies to ActHIB, Hiberix, Pentacel and Vaxelis. With PedvaxHIB the series is 2 and 4 months plus a booster at 12–15 months. Vaxelis is not used for the booster.

Pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV15, PCV20)

Dose 1 2 months · Dose 2 4 months · Dose 3 6 months · Dose 4 12 months

Inactivated poliovirus vaccine (IPV)

Dose 1 2 months · Dose 2 4 months · Dose 3 6 months · Dose 4 4 years

Give the final dose on or after age 4 years and at least 6 months after the previous dose.

Influenza vaccine (IIV3, ccIIV3, LAIV3)

6 months

Every year from 6 months of age. Children 6 months–8 years with fewer than 2 previous doses (or unknown history) need 2 doses at least 4 weeks apart that season. Nasal LAIV3 from age 2 years.

Measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine (MMR)

Dose 1 12 months · Dose 2 4 years

MMRV may be used. For dose 1 at 12–47 months, separate MMR and varicella shots are recommended unless parents prefer MMRV.

Varicella vaccine (VAR)

Dose 1 12 months · Dose 2 4 years

MMRV may be used. For dose 1 at 12–47 months, separate MMR and varicella shots are recommended unless parents prefer MMRV. Dose 2 may be given as early as 3 months after dose 1.

Hepatitis A vaccine (HepA)

Dose 1 12 months · Dose 2 18 months

Two doses at least 6 months apart, given between 12 and 23 months. Unvaccinated children through 18 years should complete the series.

Tetanus, diphtheria, and acellular pertussis vaccine (Tdap)

11 years

Human papillomavirus vaccine (HPV)

Dose 1 11 years · Dose 2 11 yr 6 mo

For all sexes. Can start at 9 years. 2 doses (0, 6–12 months) if started at 9–14 years; 3 doses if started at 15 or older or if immunocompromised.

Meningococcal conjugate vaccine (serogroups A, C, W, Y) (MenACWY)

Dose 1 11 years · Dose 2 16 years
